07/31/10 . . . 2010 Annual Picnic another HUGE success
For a recap, go to the Annual Picnic section.
07/05/10 . . . Disappointing turn out at Annual Meeting but lots accomplished
This year’s annual meeting was a disappointment in terms of participation with only 32 households, out of 120+, attending. Nonetheless, per the Association bylaws, we had a quorum and were able to proceed. Minutes of the meeting will be forthcoming.
Of particular note, was the passage of amendments to Article III, Section 6 and Article III, Section 8 of the Association Bylaws which may be reviewed via the Members Only section of this website. Changes to Association officer and directors can also be noted in this section as well.
06/21/10 . . . 2010 Newsletter and new regulations posted in Members Only section
Although you should have received your paper copies of the above from our Secretary, for your convenience and quick access, we have also posted the information on this website in the Members Only section.
06/20/10 . . . Black Bear Sighting . . . Caution Required
Board Member, Ken Ziegler, reports that a black bear has been wandering through Spinnler Point for a while now. “We knew something large had been assaulting trash cans - tonight we caught him/her in the act- getting our cans for the third time, even though we double bag and use a bungee cord to secure the top. It was a large black bear - guessing 400 pounds. Please be careful out and about especially at night, and please secure your trash cans, especially if you come for the weekend and leave trash for pick-up during the week. If your trash collection isn't until Wednesday this is extra important. Nearly every night someone's trash is strewn around the community. There are some kind neighbors who clean this up, so many of you don't even notice. This bear has been in Spinnler Point for several weeks now, but this is the first real sighting.”
06/04/10 . . . Officer Nominations Requested
This year, the terms of all Association Officers expire and new officers will have to be elected at the Annual Meeting. As a result, the Nomination Committee is interested in learning if any Association member is interested in running for any of the offices. Interested parties are asked to contact Herman Schmid (570-226-1886), Leigh Murray (570-226-3024) or Ken Ziegler (570-226-2576).
06/02/10 . . . Dock and Areaway Update
All the docks were in for this past holiday weekend and some good weather for a change. All the slip assignments are posted in the respective areaways.
The dock and areaway representatives are as follows:
Area 1: Jim Mc Hale Area 2: Alan Devitt Area 3: Herman Schmid Area 4: Leigh Murray
Please notify your representative if you are renting your slip to another resident of Spinnler Point. Rentals to non-residents are prohibited by the By-Laws. If you have any questions regarding the docks please contact your representative or call me at 570-226-2576.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe summer at the Point.
Ken Ziegler , Dock Chair

05/23/10 . . .Wallenpaupack Communities Association 2010 Meeting Schedule posted
Spinnler Point Colony Association is a member of the Wallenpaupack Communities Association and several part-time and full-time residents routinely attend the meetings. Accordingly, we have posted this year’s schedule of meetings on the Local Events page.
It is PPL’s policy to manage its lands and waters at Lake Wallenpaupack in accordance with federal, state and local laws and ordinances; to protect the scenic, recreational and environmental values of the lake; and to restrict the uses of its lands and waters to promote their full use and enjoyment by the general public. To that end, they have published some of the most frequently asked questions regarding their policy which can be viewed via the following link:

Updated information about this year’s annual picnic and advance notice about some exciting new merchandise being offered.
05/13/10 . . . Good News Update (again)
Docks 1 and 2B were installed today. Weather permitting, it appears 2A will go in before this weekend after all. Happy boating and here's to a safe and enjoyable 2010 summer! . . . Ken Ziegler
05/12/10 . . . DOCK UPDATE from Ken Ziegler
I know there is anxiety about the fact that the docks in Areas 1 and 2 are not yet in. The wind storms Saturday and Sunday did real damage all over the lake. The big community dock at Lynndale was broken into 3 parts; there are pieces of docks floating all over the lake and in some places boats sustained significant damage as well. So, there was some luck that our docks were not yet in! I went to see Don Seeley this morning again. He says there is very little chance he can get our docks in by the 15th now as he is overwhelmed doing storm recovery and repairs. He is confident that he can get the docks in for May 22, still ahead of Memorial Day.
05/08/10 . . . ALL DOCKS IN BY MAY 15
In response to a couple of inquiries, the remaining docks on areaways 1 and 2 will be in by May 15. Don Seeley, of Seeley’s Marina, states that the other two areaways (3 & 4) go in earlier because the weather on that side of the Point is much calmer. Case in point, Dock Chairperson, Ken Ziegler, reported that the Point had 50 mph winds on Wednesday, May 5. White caps on the lake are not a good omen for moving docks.
04/25/10 . . . ATTENTION SHORE ROAD RESIDENTS
Road Chairman, Ed King, reports that repair work will begin on Shore Road over the next couple of weeks. Bad and worn out sections of the road will be cut out and replaced with Virgin Asphalt. After all of the repair work is completed, two applications of a polymer sealant will be applied . . . not only on the repair work but along the entire paved length of Shore Road. During this process, the sealant CANNOT be driven on for a period one full day . . . 24 hours. Notice will be given to Shore Road residents when the sealant will be applied whereupon we will ask for your cooperation in parking your vehicles on one of the cross streets or nearby neighbor and walk to your residence. As mentioned, this will only be for a 24 hour period.
03/22/10 . . . Dick D’Ardenne Passing
In an email sent Saturday, March 20, 2010, son, Richard D’Ardenne, informed us that his dad, Dick, passed away last week. Richard stated: “As you may have known, Dad was battling with a blood disorder for a couple of years and it caught up with him. Services will be at the Dunwoody United Methodist Church this coming Friday, 26 March with an 11 AM visitation followed by a noon service. Our father has been freed from these heavy earthly chains and we’re taking comfort in His timing.”
03/07/10 . . . Annual Meeting and Picnic Dates Set
Not much going on at the Point at the moment other than trying to manage the tons of snow dropped by the recent storms. Considering the unusual accumulation amounts this year, the roads are in exceptionally passable condition. Really, the best you can expect. All things considered.
The Annual Meeting for this year has been set for July 3, 2010, 9 AM, at Erhardt’s Restaurant . . . the same place we met last year. Mark this date on your calendars as we will have to have elections for all of the Association Officers whose terms are up this year. Likewise, some Director positions will also have to be filled.
The date for this year’s Annual Picnic has been set for July 24, 2010. The Picnic Committee is planning another day full of fun and activities. If you recall, Picnic Committee ladies, with donations from various Spinnler members, assembled a number of beautiful gift baskets, displayed on a table with a related ticket bag in front of each . . . similar to what is seen at silent auctions. Picnic attendees could purchase any number of raffle tickets and place as many tickets as they wished in the bags for whatever gift baskets they preferred. This popular event will be held again this year so we are asking for donations to be placed in the gift baskets.

12/21/09 . . . Mary T. Duffy
We are sad to report that Mary T. Duffy, beloved wife of Joseph E. Duffy, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. Longtime residents of Deer Park, New York, the Duffy’s are also longtime property owners in Spinnler Point and have a home at 128 Spruce Road. Services for Mary were held Friday, December 18, 2009. The family had asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Care Network, 99 Sunnyside Boulevard, Woodbury, NY 11797. Our deepest condolences to the Duffy family.
