Spinnler Point Survives Irene!
I’m sure homeowners are wondering how we did at the Point after hurricane Irene passed up the coast so we are offering this short summary.
All in all, we did very well with no observable damage done to any homes throughout our community. Except for one tree at the entrance to the Point on Spinnler Point Road causing a power outage for a few hours, there were no other downed trees as in the May 2011 storm. As you can imagine, we have leaves and twigs strewn about on every road and we are asking homeowners and property owners to help with the cleanup by removing the leaves and twigs from the roads in front of their properties.
The new swales along the roads and all of the recent construction on the roads seem to have paid off. In spite of the torrential downpour and tropical storm winds, there were no washouts or any major road damage resulting from Irene. We are also hopeful that this work minimized or eliminated some of the water problems homeowners have had in the past.
As for the docks and boats on each areaway, the photos below represent a snapshot as of Monday, August 29th.
Other than the one casualty noted in the photos, no other boats sunk. Docks and boats were tossed about by the high winds but held together remarkably well. Due to the high water, we have been unable to get out onto the docks for a closer inspection of docks and boats for any damage.
That’s about it. As we said, we were very fortunate to have come through this event with very little damage.
