If the success of the picnic is measured by the number of people who had fun and truly enjoyed themselves, then this year’s picnic was another . . .
HUGE SUCCESS!
Bicycle Parade Marigene Hooper served as our Grand Marshall and led the modest parade. It wasn’t as large as last year but the fewer participants still generated a high level of excitement.
Horseshoe Tournament Kelsey Emig told her dad, Jim, that she is determined not to wind up in second place again this year. A tough competitor and true to her word, Kelsey, with some assistance from her dad, bested Alan and Peggy Devitt for the morning win. The Emig team also beat Don Tantala and “Uncle Ed” in the afternoon match.
Face Painting and Sand Art Still popular events which had the kids lined up waiting their turn.
For The Kids . . . ”Binky” the clown and his assistant had the kids yelling “abracadabra” with each wave of the magic wand as he started off with his magic show followed by animal balloons. As guaranteed, each child, regardless of age, received an animal balloon of their choice. The 4-hour event concluded with free cotton candy provided by “Binky.”.
Food, food and more food!
Plenty of food again this year as each family brought an entree or dessert. Rose DiMarco also made nearly 500 meatballs and Judy Schmid made a huge supply of sausage and peppers.
Trying to keep things new and interesting, we provided something new this year . . . “Dirty Water” hot dogs, nacho chips and cheese and soft pretzels. The hot dog water wasn’t really “dirty” but they truly were a delicious alternative . . . especially with cheese. These new additions, however, only met with moderate success and probably will not return next year.
New Merchandise!
In addition to the standard Spinnler Point Sweatshirts, Tees, Hoodies, etc. some new merchandise was, and still is, offered this year. See our Merchandise Page for further details.
Prize Baskets & Door Prizes
Over 20 prize baskets were awarded with themes that included: Christmas, Sports, Kids, Nautical, Beach, Gardening, etc. There were also a number of baskets made especially for the kids and it was exciting to see the individual recipients’ faces light up when their names were announced.
Nine (9) door prizes were also awarded from the FREE door prize tickets each family received when they paid their admission fee.
A HUGE “Thank You” to those of you who provided the content donations for the baskets and an even BIGGER “Thank You” to the women who spent countless hours assembling all of the baskets.
More Thanks . . .
Thank You to the Lord for providing us with a clear, warm day and letting us escape the tornado and storm that threatened the day before the picnic.
A big round of applause for the number of folks who helped us clean up after the event. The sprinkle of rain even held off until we were finished.
Thanks to Dave Zeiler for helping us remove the bags of trash to keep the areaway clear and clean.
A HUGE “Thank You” to the members of the Picnic Committee who invest a great deal of time and effort putting this event together each year. Their only reward is the enjoyment of watching each of the families show their support by attending and participating in the only real community function function we have.
One final comment about the picnic. Since we have some new members in the community, we might explain that our Annual Picnic is not intended to be a fund raiser, per se, nor is it an entirely free event. The nominal “admission” price and the monies paid for the “extras,” are to help us “break even” (pay the bills) and allow the picnic to be a self-sustainable event so we can continue having it each year without increasing the Association budget.
Once again, “Thank You” to everyone for whatever or however you contributed to the success of this year’s event.
You’re not gonna believe what we are planning for next year! You will have to show up for this one!
